Section 8 Snowsport Institute - SLT - Snowsport Leadership Training

Work Practicum

To help prepare you for employment as a ski instructor or snowboard instructor and boost your resume for that job hunt Section 8 training programs offer you the opportunity to gain valuable hands on experience through a work practicum with the Mt. Washington Snow School.

The work practicum is optional and available throughout both ski or snowboard instructor courses. You will shadow experienced instructors and test out your newly acquired teaching skills on real live students. On days off you may take part in as many practicum sessions as you wish and we encourage all participants to take advantage of this opportunity as it looks very favorable amongst snow school employers.

With all the certifications, training and experience you will receive during the "Snowsport Leadership Training" program, you will be well prepared for a career in the ski or snowboard industry. You should not have any trouble finding work as a ski or snowboard instructor at resorts in Canada or around the world. If you are looking towards a guiding or coaching career you will have many of the prerequisites for further training and to start gaining experience.

After the "Basic Training" program you will be qualified to teach skiing or snowboarding at an entry level and most snow schools are always looking for new employees to help out with their childrens and begginers programs. The great part about this course is you can get certified by early Februrary and then gain paid employment for the rest of the season.

For every day volunteered, Mt. Washington Resort will reward you with additional ski passes for weekends as well the work practicum is a great way to get your foot in the door if you happen to be seeking future employment on the mountain.
