Section 8 Snowsport Institute - SLT - Snowsport Leadership Training

Work Practicum

To help prepare you for employment as a ski instructor or snowboard instructor and boost your resume for that job hunt, Section 8 training programs offer you the opportunity to gain valuable hands on experience through a work practicum with the Mount Washington Snow School.

Those who succesfully complete the 4 week "Basic Training" ski or snowboard instructor program and have the appropriate work visa can apply for a paid employment practicum for the remainder of the season. Those without a work permit are welcome to extend their stay for a volunteer practicum and some further training.

For those on our 12 week "SLT" program we offer an optional volunteer ski or snowboard instructor work practicum throughout your course. You will shadow experienced instructors and test out your newly acquired teaching skills on real live students. On non training days, you may take part in as many practicum sessions as you wish and we encourage all participants to take advantage of this opportunity as it looks very favorable amongst snow school employers and will help to better prepare you for the certification exams. The work practicum is also a great way to get your foot in the door if you happen to be seeking future employment at Mount Washington Resort as they will be scouting for staff from our programs.

Work prospects for "Snowsport Leadership Training" Graduates With all the certifications, training, references and experience you will receive during this comprehensive program, you will be well prepared for a career in the ski or snowboard industry. You will be capable of teaching up to advanced level skiers or riders and should not have any trouble finding work as an instructor at resorts in Canada or around the world. If you are looking towards a guiding or coaching career you will have many of the prerequisites for further training and to start gaining experience.

Work prospects for "Basic Training" Graduates - After the program you will be qualified to teach skiing or snowboarding at an entry level and most snow schools are always looking for new employees to help out with their childrens and begginers programs.
