Adventures on Vancouver Island

Located just off Canada's southern west coast, Vancouver Island is a unique destination full of adventure. At its southern tip, the Island is home to British Columbia's provincial capital, Victoria. A city that often feels more British than Canadian, Victoria is famous for its bountiful gardens, funky boutique shops, lively pubs and old world charm. There are many soft adventures to be had here but as you travel further north and the island terrain becomes more rugged, the communities become tighter and the people hardier.

Vancouver Island is an exciting region rich in First Nations history and culture, agri-tourism, wildlife watching and a plethora of outdoor activities. In the winter you can go skiing or snowboarding on the diverse slopes of Mount Washington Resort or the funky community run operation of Mount Cain which has spectacular backcountry peaks just outside the ropes. You can try your hand at fishing, whale watching, kayaking, scuba diving, surfing or any other challenge this beautiful ocean paradise can throw at you. Those who prefer land based ventures should explore the massive Douglas Fir trees and and Western Red Cedars in the Island's lush old growth rain forests. Take the time to connect with bears eagles, elk and deer. You can go deep under the mountains, spelunking into spectacular caves or you can climb to the top of them in Strathcoma Provincial Park's pristine alpine landscape. You can go rock climbing, jump out of a plane, bungy jump towards a raging river or if your more interested in self preservation... there is of course plenty of terrific golf as well. Hop on a ferry or two and tour around the Gulf Island's also encompassed in the region. These diverse, small islands are known for their rich artisan wares, wine, culinary adventures and scenic outdoor recreation.

Whether you come for a short vacation, or plan on staying for the season, travel to Vancouver Island and let the wilderness, culture and heritage of this dynamic maritime region embrace you.
